I teach a recording class/internship at The Annex where you can learn all the fundamentals of recording, mixing & Pro Tools. It’s all hands on and you’ll learn on some of the best gear in the industry.
Recording Preparation
Practice over and over, make sure you have the parts down really good. Any pre-production can be good as well, even a shitty one mic recording can be helpful in making sure the parts are sounding good together. Practice with a click track, it will sound tighter and make overdubs a lot easier.
Get new guitar strings and drum heads but break them in a day before, you want them to be stretched and staying in tune. Make sure the kit is in tune, if you can’t do it find someone that can. Intonate your guitars and make sure cords and amps aren’t causing any buzzing.
Singers should do some good warmups and stay away from milk or anything that causes a lot of mucus. I like to book singing sessions later in the day to give the singers voice time to get ready.
Stay calm, the better prepared you are the easier it will be.
New Place
I know it seems like I’m always moving but I’ve finally found a great house to record out of. I’ve signed a 2 year lease and will be working on my home studio again. It’s nice just to be able to walk downstairs to record anytime I like.
New Murrieta song
I’m recording a new song for my band Murrieta, it’s been years. It’s sounding great so far and RK Topper is helping out on the drums. Should have the mix up next week!
Back in town
I’m back in Utah after a brief hiatus in Austin. If you want to record with me I will be working out of The Annex, they are an awesome high end studio. I’ll slowly be rebuilding my home studio as well.
New bass for the studio
I just bought a 2001 Fender Precision American made bass for the studio. It’s a 2001 in immaculate condition and plays great. Can’t get great sounds without good instruments.
Pro Tools 9
We are now running Pro Tools 9. No more manual delay compensation, woohoo!
New Studio Location
We’ve moved the studio to North Salt Lake, it’s a lot more convenient and less work so we can focus more on the music. Hit us up if you need a tour, there are photos up on the about page. We’ll have more samples songs up soon.

Fall update
It’s been a busy couple of months, i’ve recorded a few bands and fine tuned the studio. I’m finishing up some mixes for an indie/folk band this week, it’s sounding great. New samples will be posted soon.
